About the Historic Red Dog

The Historic Red Dog in Peterborough - 128 Years and Counting!

In 1883, the Red Dog originally opened as Clancy's Hotel and was owned by John Sullivan and John Clancy. It has also been known as the Peterborough House, The American Hotel/House and Brownie's Tavern, but the Dog got its current name from former owner "Red Dog" Ray McGregor.
Dubbed the "home of live entertainment", legendary artists such as Neil Young, Ronnie Hawkins, Jeff Healey and the Tragically Hip, along with up and coming artists like My Darkest Days, Hollarado, Arkells, Jeff Martin, Basia Bulat, Tokyo Police Club, The Weakerthans have all graced the stage.
The Red Dog is also extremely proud to be able to showcase the outstanding local talent that Peterborough has to offer as well, with local bands like The Spades, Rikers, The Birthday Boys, and Union City all regularly appearing.
